2019 SA Hip Hop Best Freshmen: Every day we see new talents rise in the music industry. Every year we see a lot of stars break out in the music, some have been consistent and are still dominating the industry.
The SA music scene saw some break out of fresh and young talents this year. Here is the list of SA Best Hip-hop Freshmen for the year 2019 according to Rashid Kay.
Lesego Kyle Mynandu is an upcoming artist who is already looking promising. A former member of The Wrecking Crew before they split, the young talent is already making a name for himself in the industry. At the SA hip hop awards 2019, he emerged as the Best Freshman and the Best Male Artiste for the Year. Candy Man is his debut single.
2. The Big Hash
He is one of the youngest in the industry and he is already a big deal. His EP “Life + Times Of A Teenage Influence” has more than 170 000 streams on SoundCloud. He has collaborated with big names in the industry like Riky Rick and is currently a SA Addidas brand ambassador.
He is one of the rising lyricists in the SA hip-hop industry. Touchline won The People’s Choice Award at the Verse of the Year Awards hosted by Silkour Life this year. His debut album, ‘Music from My Good Eye’, was listed as one of the greatest South African albums of all time.
The Pretoria based rapper is one of our best for 2019. His debut single ‘Culture Vulture’ was released in 2017 but didn’t catch the buzz until this year. The remix scored features from top SA artists like Emtee and AKA.
5. Jimmy Wiz
Jimmy Wiz in such a short while has established himself as one of SA’s most skilled lyricists. His first debut album came this year titled ‘Accordin’ To Jim. Prior to the album he has a few singles to his credit such as 1 shot, Sauce and Linda which were released last year.
One of the most sought after producers in SA, PatricKxxLeee was originally born in Zambia but raised in Johannesburg. The ‘punk trap’ rapper started uploading his song on SoundCloud in 2016. A unique artist with a unique music style. His first studio album, ‘Diary of an Arsonist’ was released in 2017 much to critical acclaim.
7. Indigo Stella
Indigo Stella is an 18-year-old budding rapper based in Johannesburg. She dropped her first single ‘Boss Up’ under the Mistro Records Label. In September this year, she dropped her debut mixtape’Indigo’ which is a 10 track. the mixtape was self-mixed and mastered by the young rapper.
8. Dee Koala
The Adidas Originals ambassador and Cape Town-based rapper Dee Koala is already making her mark on the local rap scene. Started at a very young age of 12, Dee is steadily climbing on to stardom. Her hit single, Whuzet was released last year which caught Riky Rick’s attention. The latter later invited her to perform at the summer music festival of the season, Major League Gardens.
9. Costa Titch
Real name, Costa Tsobanoglou was a choreographer before he became a rapper. He has been dropping songs since 2017. His biggest hit yet is Nkalakatha which he dropped earlier this year. The remix of the song scored features from AKA and Riky Rick. He has worked with the likes of Cassper Nyovest and big award ceremonies DSTV Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards. He dropped two EPs this year, Fallen Kings and Discharge.
Another SA finest upcoming artist is MPK who is striving to carve a niche for himself in the music industry. He is certainly one of those to watch out for in the coming years.
